    Grants and student loans

    Your canton, foundations or private funds can help you to fund your studies or training course.

    Swiss students and apprentices can apply for a one-time or recurring subsidy. Student loans must be paid back. Grants do not have to be paid back.

    The education department of each canton has an office responsible for answering questions about educational funding. They also provide addresses of foundations and private trusts.

    Cantonal funding offices

    The Swiss government awards scholarships to researchers from abroad who hold a completed master’s degree or PhD and artists from abroad who hold a completed bachelor’s degree. Interested candidates can apply to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI.
