Holidays and public holidays

All employees in Switzerland are entitled to at least four weeks’ holiday per year. Young people up to the age of 20 are entitled to five weeks.

Public holidays

1 August (National Day) is the only federal holiday. The cantons may designate a maximum of eight additional public holidays, which vary from canton to canton.

If a public holiday falls on a non-working day (e.g. Saturday or Sunday), you are not entitled to compensation. If there is a public holiday while you are on holiday, you must not enter that day as a holiday.
