e-votin: current situation?
Up until the beginning of 2019, e-voting was offered in ten cantons. The cantons had two e-voting systems to choose from, the system run by the Canton of Geneva and that developed by Swiss Post. Following its decision of November 2018, the Canton of Geneva announced in June 2019 that it would be withdrawing its system with immediate effect. On 5 July 2019, Swiss Post announced that its individually verifiable system would no longer be available to the cantons. Its fully verifiable system should be ready by 2020.
Given that no e-voting systems are currently available in Switzerland, it is not possible to vote using this channel at the present time (as of July 2019).
At its meeting on 26 June 2019, the Federal Council requested the Federal Chancellery to work with the cantons to develop a new trial programme and present its proposals in a report by the end of 2020.
