Use the blank ballot that you receive in the mail with your voting materials.
  • Choose the candidate you wish to elect. You can follow the recommendations of a party or group or choose any person with voting rights (including Swiss citizens abroad). In the cantons of UR, AR and AI, there is no official application procedure. In the canton of Glarus, the procedure is optional. You can find a list of the candidates on the website of the canton of Glarus (website available in German) and in the gazette of the canton.

  • Write the full first and surnames of the person you wish to elect on the ballot paper by hand. You can also add additional information, such as the candidate's home address and occupation or position, if necessary.

For your vote to count, be sure to:
  • use only the official ballot you received with the voting material

  • write only one name on the ballot

  • write legibly by hand

  • not make comments or draw on the ballot

Submit your ballot

Put the completed ballot paper in the ballot envelope provided and, except in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, sign the polling card. Then you can either:
  • vote by post using the mailing envelope provided,

  • put the envelope in the special mailbox of your commune, which is usually located at the city hall or

  • personally deposit the envelope at the ballot box by going to the polling station on election day.
