Voting rights of Swiss citizens living abroad

Swiss citizens living abroad can take part in federal votes and cantonal ballots provided they meet certain conditions.

To vote at federal level, you need to register with a Swiss representation as a Swiss citizen living abroad. You also need to be on the electoral roll of your last commune of residence, or, if you have never lived in Switzerland, you need to be on the electoral roll of your commune of origin.

Swiss citizens living abroad can only take part in cantonal ballots in certain cantons. For more information, please contact your commune.
