Promotion and assistance

A wide range of private and semi-public organisations support the business community. They offer financial support, coaching, assistance in obtaining risk capital or the provision of contacts. The public sector primarily ensures that the general conditions (legislation and the tax system) are favourable. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco) provides information on promotional measures in Switzerland.

Cantonal and regional promotional networks

The economic development agencies in the cantons are the most important public contact points for Swiss businesses. The cantonal economic development agencies also assist in setting up businesses. In virtually every region there are so called business incubators or technology parks. In addition to advice, these provide premises and basic services to enable new businesses to start up without having to make major initial investments.

Federal and cantonal promotional measures

Various promotional instruments employed by the federal authorities and the cantons assist in the foundation and location of new businesses. The cantonal economic development agencies provide information and support in the application procedure. Foreign businesses that wish to locate in Switzerland can contact the representatives of Location: Switzerland.

Innovation promotion

The Confederation supports the transfer of technology and know-how. The Innovation Promotion Agency (CTI) provides a link between academic institutions and the market and promotes start-ups in the hi-tech sector. Swiss universities have also set up transfer offices, which actively support the commercialisation of advances made in university laboratories..

Going independent online

SME TaskForce is the official online solution for setting up your own business. This service, provided by seco, allows you to apply to the Commercial Register, to register for VAT, and to make pension contributions as a self-employed person (AHV).
